The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has stepped down as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This comes after a judicial decision that invalidated her eligibility to hold the office.
Official Departure
The head of the Justice Department, the Attorney General, confirmed the prosecutor's departure on Monday. In a statement that the court's "flawed" ruling made it impossible for Habba to effectively run her office.
"Do not interpret following the order as giving up," she declared. "This battle will now reach across America."

Her resignation follows closely on a judicial panel ruled that she had been acting without proper authority as the federal prosecutor. This judgment is expected to impact many criminal cases in the Garden State.
The judicial panel said that a interim role that skirted confirmation by the US Senate breached the federal law governing appointments.

Bondi said that the former prosecutor will continue working within the Department of Justice as a high-level advisor. Habba plans to seek further review of the ruling, in the hope of achieving a different outcome.
In a statement, the Attorney General wrote that the judiciary "must not second-guess the executive's selection of attorneys tasked with performing the primary duty of the administration of enforcing the law."
