Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for questions to be asked about his future after another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring failings from his squad in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase like this with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to where it needs to be, show everyone again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
