Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just eight real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to have fun with the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Input

Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
