Brian Eno Calls On Public Help to Get Together for Palestine Song to UK Festive Top Spot.
A campaign is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project hopes to send support to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Chance for Unity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely let down if it fails to, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the version of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“The song holds a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded after a major charity concert held in the autumn. First conceived to be done as a live recording, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of musicians featured on Lullaby features a range of prominent voices from the industry. All were part of the benefit event, which managed to collect a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of music creators. The track features a fusion of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The group managing the campaign have clarified that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These resources will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a spokesperson commented. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was characterized as its widespread damage, with a overwhelming percentage of property described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a handful of millions is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and proving that another narrative exists.”
The track is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a digital service from mid-December.
