Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is uncertain and the American officials has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas linked to the the regime, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a series of missiles," it added.
It said debris landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
