President Trump Calls Families of Attacked Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
President Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to come to the White House.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president told reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Reaction
Attendees came together over the weekend at the high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to aid policing efforts in the capital.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers desired. She behaved with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to assist people.”
Service arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Government Changes
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the administration to pause asylum processing and cease granting entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed the program that she also intended to meet with his relatives.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with excellence, according to the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey told the gathering at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
