The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating future games, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a girl containing multiple personalities within her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four distinct personas, all possessing their own fears and drives. These entities can take over at will, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Based on revealed footage, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie medical facility, while other scenes depict the protagonist exploring a desolate church.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that seem trivial to other people can trigger something primal inside us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are specific to every individual."

The central gameplay loop revolves around controlling the persona that emerges at any given time. However, these souls will change against your will during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's fears become amplified and assault the protagonist one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the lobby have large flowers growing from their necks should be. Flowers are an ever-present element, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four personas asserts that the body is rightfully them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players believes a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, since each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The final entity standing might be a fraud. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
