The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
